Thank you all for your wonderful responses to our great photowalk last night! It was exciting that the 3 of us had photos on PP and we all celebrated tonight with a second photowalk, culminating another wonderful day in New York. The walkers were me, Michael Elliott @michaelelliott and Junko @jyokota. Michael took us to one of his favorite spots where 3 mysterious holes have appeared in the chain link fence that rises above the Manhattan Bridge pedestrian walkway. Photographers vie for position at one of these three spots, or are otherwise left to crouching low to position the camera between spaces in the railings - quite awkward! Michael got us there in time for access to the holes and we shared positions for an amazing hour long show as the city moved from golden to blue to night sky. You can see the park area on the left side, then one of the two Brooklyn Bridge arch supports, and of course Manhattan to the right with Freedom Tower standing above the rest of the skyline. Photography lesson learned: On a bridge with traffic and the subway tracks with trains passing every two minutes or maybe even more often -- the bridge kept shaking, there is too much vibration for a long exposure. These are combined from a 1, 2, and 3 second bracketed shots. My longer exposures all had a bit of camera shake.

Another wonderful photowalk in Manhattan, and it is so good to be with people who know all the good spots! When we were there in February we could not find any good spots to photograph from, and the ones we snuck into we got kicked out of!! I felt like I needed to go and live in NYC again now that my love of photography is rekindled so that I can locate all the good places to photograph. You did an amazing job with this in such a short time and handheld. I found out about the shake issue when I got into a marina and stood on the dock trying to balance a tripod on a surface that was moving with the waves! FAV for this view at the perfect hour!
What a fabulous night shot. Love how smooth the water is. Nice to have a place to shoot from as well and share it. I am lost in what you do in your photography but love it. FAV
This is stunning. I spent a few days in New York a few years ago and would so love to come back and spend longer. It's a magical city and you ae capturing it so well. Fav
@panthora@chrysanthemum Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. Just a clarification -- my camera was definitely on a tripod!! I couldn't hold it even for 1 second without shaking. But even on a tripod, it was crazy with the trains and cars roaring by and how shaky the bridge was so that even on the tripod, our photo timing was very tricky - we had to click between trains and cars which was sort of unpredictable.
@joeymc Haha!! It IS a @michaelelliott shot as he took us to one of his favorite sites, showed us where to set up, and then left it to @junko and me to take our shots. But really, the credit for the opportunity and all the advice goes to Michael!
This is absolutely fantastic Taffy and deserves a huge Fav. I hope we manage to get some good night shots when we come to Chicago and you'll have to give me some tips as I haven't really done much night shooting.
Incredible image!!! Glad you were able to get this awesome long exposure. The lights of NYC look stunning. You must of been like a kid in a candy store with all this great city opps.
@rosiekind We definitely will -- and I'm happy to share what I've figured out over time. I still have a lot of learn, but love night shots! It will be such a fun time when you are all here!
Congratulations on TT this week, Taffy (as if you are ever absent...;-))))
So nice that this was the chosen one with all of those wonderful memories of NYC with fellow 365ers!
