Yum! by taffy

Yum!

Today was photoshoot #1 at Scafuri's Bakery in Chicago's Little Italy (for background, see post from a few weeks ago: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2015-11-04
Kelly, the young owner, and her team had baked an array of their products and had them set up for me when I arrived. I set up my pop-up studio and extra lighting. Remember growing up and being told that you can't play with your food? Well, I got to play with wonderful cookies and even a breakfast sandwich. She asked for ones like this one, where there would be space for her to add text. Others are banners, closeups of individual cookies, etc. It was a great experience! And all the props were mine to take up to the college for meeting treats.
Oh yes yum! And well done Taffy ")

Great work Taffy! Sounds like you are having fun with this project! What lighting did you use?
November 20th, 2015
Wonderful ...This has such a nice 3D look I feel as if we could almost reach out and pick one up! Fav!
November 20th, 2015
Great shot, Taffy. I love the 3D look as well. Nice to keep the props too. I bet they were yummy. FAV
November 20th, 2015
Nice work! The soft lighting and negative space look great. Big yay for eating the props!
November 20th, 2015
They look delicious. In my opinion, Italian food, delicacies like these, and recipes are the best in the world.
November 20th, 2015
I'll 2nd that ! Yum. Super simple yet it works so well.
November 20th, 2015
Sounds a perfect arrangement, and a wonderful, delicious looking photograph.
November 20th, 2015
They look lovely, wish I wasn't diabetic.
November 20th, 2015
Mmmm, deliciously decadent and nicely presented :)
November 20th, 2015

November 20th, 2015
Love the capture, impressed with the lack of background and shadow. Fav
November 20th, 2015
They look delicious!
November 20th, 2015
delicious composition! fav
November 20th, 2015
Mmmmm...yummy! These do look as though I could just reach out and grab one. You've accomplished her goal perfectly as she has plenty of space for her text, and what a bonus it was to be able to take the yummies to the meeting!
November 20th, 2015
They look great and there's plenty of room for any copy that needs to accompany the image. Good high key too. Nice one!
Keeping the props sounds like a very reasonable part of the deal - maybe Kelly will need you for more photoshoots. ;-)
November 20th, 2015
Fabulous and yummy!

November 20th, 2015
A super foodie capture
November 20th, 2015
Fun, love them :)
November 20th, 2015
Very clean shot - it's making me hungry!
November 20th, 2015
Great shot, but if it is to be used commercially, consider a different background as the icing gets lost against the background, (especially at the top)
November 20th, 2015
Yummy
November 20th, 2015
hehehe - I love these cookies!
November 20th, 2015
Turned out well Taffy and you obviously had fun - a win all round I'd say.
November 20th, 2015
Fabulous! How nice that you got to keep them! I do some product photography too but don't get to keep any... Maybe I need to start shooting food ;)
November 20th, 2015
Lovely image, great focus and composition but if I may make 2 comments. I had my laptop screen on an angle and there was a strange blue hue on the left side of the cookies, I also agree with Bob, the colour of the icing is not contrasting enough with the background, hope you don;t mind...
November 20th, 2015
Oh, how fun that you get to try product photography for a real business... sounds like a delightful learning experience. They look delicious.
November 20th, 2015

@leonbuys83 @bob65 Thanks for your thoughts on the icing. I had wondered about that and may try some other backgrounds when I go back. For this one, I thought it was clear from the middle cookie how the frosting looked and actually had consciously used high key processing so that the white of the frosting merged with the white background. For the future, I think it will be best for me to shoot it with more than one background, so good lesson learned!
November 21st, 2015
Are you now in for a lot of processing. That should keep you busy as the weather turns cold.
November 21st, 2015
