Trees Grows Purple Flower by taffy

Trees Grows Purple Flower

There is a tree on campus with branches growing purple flowers right out of the bark. Someone last year told me the name of it but I've forgotten. It's one of my favorites of the season so it was fun to go walking with my camera and see it in bloom, along with so many different flowers. Good to have some backups to use with a busy week ahead.\
Update: Thanks to Maree and Sally, the tree is either American or Eastern Redbud Tree.
Fav! Beautiful. Lovely story too.

I'm not usually a great fan of flower photos, but this one is rather striking Taffy. Glorious colour and tonings in these flowers. Quite imperial.

I think it is the Redbud tree, but I don't know if American or Eastern. Thank you both so much -- I could remember the 'red' but nothing else!

@888rachel Yes, one of the weirdest trees I've ever seen. I hope the blooms stay on a while this spring. Once gone, it's not that interesting a tree at all.
