From my 2015 New York City visit and another example of a photo I kept but couldn't figure out how to process at the time. This is a tight crop, with lighting adjusted to emphasize the chess pieces rather than the players. Players usually do not want their photos taken, I've noticed. I liked that I could process so the blurred background is able to convey additional chessboards in the park.
Thank you so much for sending yesterday's images to PP! Much appreciated!
The tight crop and lighting certainly concentrates attention on the action rather than the actors. Looks like they're well into this game and concentrating very hard.
Excellent work with the lighting and an excellent shot too. I wonder if they don't like their picture taken because it ruins their concentration or if there's some sort of way to tell what their strategy is. Hmm.. something to think about while looking at this great shot.
People play outdoors? Wow. I guess it is warmer there! He looks just about ready to pick up a piece and move it somewhere strategic and then changed his mind.....
