So creeped out! Notice the ghost? I took this photo of the empty square after the rain mostly as a document shot. We'd had a lovely lunch with our friends, a rest, then dinner and evening at their place. No pictures so Jim patiently waited while I photographed a few spots on our walk back. In uploading, I saw what looks like a woman's reflection in the lower left, yet there is no reason for it to be there! It has to be a reflection of something...but there is no visible explanation. Had to post before going to sleep -- any thoughts on what might have caused this phenomenon other than a ghost roaming the square??
Thanks for the well wishes for a good trip. It certainly has gotten off to a wonderful start!
Great find and the wet floor is a plus. Before seing description and tags, I've not point this place on your city. I was thinking about Paris or Barcelona ... ;)
To me it looks like a statue of some kind. Using the magnifier there is a statue on top of the fountain and I am wondering if this is the source of the reflection.
OMG, the hairs on the back of my neck are all standing up. How weird is that??? But you've got a wonderful shot regardless and the mysterious woman adds a real frisson of the unknown.
So interesting, you have had David and I intrigued. I think we have figured what it is though. We have checked out Google maps and photos of the area and if you look at the link below http://sablethouse.blogspot.com.au/2016/03/some-sights-of-vaison-la-romaine-and.html
About 16 pictures down on this page shows the scene you have photographed. The picture is called Place Montfort Vaison-la-Romaine October 2015 and you will see small fountains coming up from the ground just up from the main fountain. There is probably a small ground fountain off to the right of your picture and you have probably captured the lens flare from this image. Hope that all makes sense.
I still like the idea of it being a ghost though. Well spotted. fav
@onewing Thanks Babs! Very helpful as always. I also just read the blog and he captures this town well. Our hotel is in the corner of the square, so I should be able to observe the strange reflection more closely tonight.
Definitely a ghost. Looks like my old Aunt Maude who was murdered by a short sighted werewolf while wandering around the Transylvania cemetery looking for slightly warm bodies.
It looks so weird at first glance, doesn't it! It's probably lens flare catching some combination of the water and the lamps, but your explanation is fun!
@ukandie1 I'm channeling you while here -- trying to do more people watching. None worthy of posting yet, but know you are influencing me as we sit on the square watching the world go by!
Intriguing! Haven't a clue what it is and would love to go there to investigate - I love trying to work stuff like that out. :-D
Good night capture, the reflections (including Mr/Ms Spectre!) and pools of light are appealing. I particularly like the way the leaves of the tree are illuminated.
@ltodd@onewing
You two are really helpful. I took a look at the view from Google Map (it's a 2014 image). That statue would have been to my left and behind essentially two walls between the statue and the reflection, so I don't think it could have been that statue. BUT, here's where it gets creepier -- that statue isn't there, as far as I remember (will check on the 22nd when we're back there). So, while she does look similar in form, it makes me wonder what happened to her!
