I've really wanted to create a bubble image, and thanks to @lesip and others who have been so kind in sharing how to do this, I created one at last. I think it needed to be colder for it to have frozen more. Reflections are of the building and the balcony.
Recipe for bubbles: corn syrup, water, and dishwasher liquid, a little of each mixed in a bowl, then using a straw to blow the bubbles.
Lesson: bubbles blow away quickly, bubbles pop quickly
Thank you for putting my little sparrow in the snow onto PP!
This is beautiful Taffy! Frozen bubbles are at the top of my list! We may get even have some snow on Wednesday so I might get a chance to have a go. Lovely tone to the image! Fav!
Oh, so well done, and the reflection adds a new twist to the whole thing! How cold does it need to be (other than freezing obviously). I tried this so long ago without much success. I don't remember corn syrup being part of the mix, so maybe on our next horrible cold snap I'll give it a try.
Fab shot! Love the hint to use a straw to blow the bubbles. I tried it last year with a regular wand and store-bought soap, and ended up with a sticky, soapy mess on my hands. No way was I gonna touch my camera with those!
I'm hoping to get a bubble shot soon- was too sick to take advantage of the last cold snap but it looks like we're going to have another one soon. Great shot!
This came out bubbletastic and I love the star bursts. Are they enhanced in photoshop? Another fav about the photo is I can actually see a few single snowflakes. Great focus
@lesip MANY thanks!! Star bursts courtesy of Topaz Star Effects, a plug-in that I found to be totally useless until finally figured out how to get rid of many of the starbursts that they automatically create, and to change their shape and size. With control, it's pretty handy. And thanks for noticing the snowflakes -- they surprised me and I was really pleased when I saw them as I was only focused on the bubble when taking the shot. A good bit of beginners luck!
You did it! I know you've been thinking about doing this for a few days. Yours is unique with the reflections. Love the snowflakes. Fav.
I bought glycerine yesterday and am going to try that recipe.
I usually make mine with the bubble mixture that kids use to blow bubbles. I haven't used a straw so will try this technique come winter. Great first attempt btw.
So you make up the mixture and blow a bubble outdoors and it freezes? I have not really heard of this. How cold does it need to be? I like the colour scheme and the starbursts.
Well done with your bubbles. I tried this in Feb last year in Canada but we only used regular bubble liquid and blower. I'm going to try again this winter. We did get some to freeze but they seemed to burst quickly.
@gozoinklings I have seen people say you can use a regular freezer and have wanted to try it. I thought it would be too hard but if the bubble is blown with a straw you would have control of the bubble... maybe :)
@golftragic Actually, not so cold (in the 20s, so for use, that's not that bad). It wouldn't have been cold enough today to do a bubble. At least now that I know how bubbles work, I can look forward to totally freezing cold again! Just need a better spot than the balcony...
Love those starbursts! I am planning to go up to the cottage in just over a week and might do some bubble shots while there... will have to try to remember the recipe 🤓
I bought glycerine yesterday and am going to try that recipe.
