I found a new vantage point today on a walk to pick up some cabinet handles. At the last minute, I'd grabbed my camera with the WA lens that was already on it, and am glad I did. This is a combination of 6 images (using photoshop) to form the panorama of the north and south forks, plus the main branch of the river that goes east to Lake Michigan. Despite the cloudy day, there were tons of reflections in the buildings that lined the river bank.
What a wonderful pano! So much detail and some fabulous reflections! I have a shot of that middle building from our river boat trip! Great processing! Glad you picked up your camera! Fav!
I love seeing all the forks, the sharp detail on the buildings, the reflections. So glad you brought your camera. I’ve done VERY few pianos and never would have thought to shoot them with wa lens thinking there would be too much distortion. Is your camera full frame? You’ve inspired me to take some pianos soon. Too bad re the cut off top of the tallest building. Did you take these as vertical shots?
Intriguing image - it looks like the entire population just upped and left leaving behind a bunch of soul less buildings... your clinical processing reinforces this feeling.
@jgpittenger WA is not a great choice for panos, definitely, because of the distortion. In this one, the tall building would have been a problem no matter what as it's so much higher then the others, but with a 50, it may not have had as much cut off (then again, with the 50, I probably wouldn't get all the buildings!). I do use a FF camera, so this was taken at probably about 14 -20 mm (the lens is the Nikon 14-24). Panos are definitely challenging, but a lot of fun to do! I usually stitch in PS, but then do the rest of the cropping and adjusting in LR.
@vignouse Great observation! Two things create the sense of emptiness...first it was a Saturday, and a cold and cloudy one, so there weren't many people out and about in this area. Second, with the WA, any humans that were in the shot are literally little dots, totally overshadowed by the architecture and at too far a distance to show up in the scene. It does look awfully empty. Actually, the third is that with this weather, I caught it with no river traffic either.
Lovely! The reflections of the buildings, in the buildings, are really great. So fun to see the bridge (on the left) elevated. So much to see... lovely.
Terrific pano, I'd never have thought of using a WA for a pano. The wide view of the various forks of the river is great, especially with the array of interesting architecture to frame the water.
You picked a good time to take this - it looks uncluttered and almost desolate. Building reflections are lovely and I am endlessly fascinated by places where rivers conjoin. I have never tried to blend images into a stitch. Maybe that is something I should try......
It looks so deserted!
