Friends came for dinner last night, bringing us a dozen "Burley Eggs" -- from the coop at Burley School (my friend is principal there and brought the coop to the school via Whole Foods donation). The coop goes along the edge of the school so the chickens get to free range during the day, then sleep in the coop at night. And occasionally, a new chicken will show up (dropped off in the dark of night). The eggs entertained me this afternoon.
Absolutely beautiful Taffy , I could reach out and pick up that egg ! I love the monotonic effect of the background with the pure white of the egg and the delicate feather - Beautiful edited in a painterly mode . Stunning ! and a huge fav
What an excellent idea for a school - so many kids have no idea where their food actually comes from. And who doesn't love a chook? And who wouldn't love this photo - it has a classic feel to it. :)
This is so beautiful Taffy! I love it! Fabulous processing! Sounds like a fun time with the eggs! How lovely that people drop off extra chickens at the coop! A brilliant idea for the school to keep chickens- so much to learn! Huge fav!
A beautiful presentation, such wonderful colors in the background that complement the feather and the egg. Honestly, to me this belongs on notecards, it is beautiful.
@suzanne234@pamknowler The mysterious arrival of chickens is actually causing a problem. They built the coop to insure that the birds had plenty of room to roam and have their resting spots, and are in danger of overcrowding. People don't ask permission -- they just dump their chickens there. My friend is thinking she needs to put up a sign saying 'no vacancy' to keep the others from becoming too crowded and then having related health issues come up. I never knew chickens could be this complex! Thanks for the kind words on my photo, as always!
Lovely still life. Very creative.
I knew a person who wanted to relieve herself of her rabbit so snuck into the petting zoo at night and released it. Imagine what came of that. LOL
Beautiful use of textures! Just googled the school and their chickens what a great program and fantastic images! Interesting to hear of the issue of the abandoned chicks!
@ukandie1 We should go photograph one day...I'm sure Catherine would be up for it (I took photos last year for her school calendar for all the parents). When it gets warmer, though!
That would be fun @taffy , but yes when it is warmer...spring weather would be nice right now! I think it is going to be one of those years when it goes straight from winter weather to summer weather!

Apparently chickens can get quite stressed about introducing a new one and reaffirming their pecking order.
