This mural, by a French artist (whose name I've forgotten) is part of the 'arts corridor' that is coming into the South Loop area (just south of the downtown business district). This is supposed to represent a Native American, and is seen from the river behind a major new development that has started to create a new high-rise mixed use community.
So much interest in this...I LOVE it!!!! Love the juxtaposition between the pose of the mural and the digger! I am trying to find who it is by, when I do I will post the link!
There are some great ones across the city -- really good idea (could become a book in fact). Have you been to Pilsen area? There are a lot of interesting ones there, and one of the schools in that area has murals made of tile (I think Perez Elementary).
This is fantastic, and you're right about the machinery framing the mural. The contrast between the old building in the foreground (an erstwhile factory?) and the modern, rather bland building in the background adds appeal to the image. The mural itself is very interesting, love your caption.
I love this. The interest in the image is huge ... with technology and art both so well demonstrated. I'm a real fan of this type of street-art. Such talent!
What a fascinating photo! It almost seemed to me as if the Native American was rubbing his head where the digger had inadvertently bumped into him! A most interesting blend of ideas in here.
Your great image tells such a story - the new and the old, what was valued but may now disappear. What a sad tale if the new construction hides the mural from view.
He doesn't look so happy - but I'm not surprised with that digger creeping up behind him. There is so much story in this photograph and yet it all hangs together in a great composition working well as a whole and in parts.
Thanks for adding the link! Now I'm feeling I was just being lazy! (smile -- not really feeling that bad -- but am appreciative).
