The Not-Lone Runners by taffy

The Not-Lone Runners

This is my intersection on the way into "town" (the small former fishing village on Beaver island), via Sloptown Road (home at one time of a series of pig farms). This is pretty typical of traffic on Beaver Island (and of the dirt roads) - the antithesis of Chicago which is also on Lake Michigan, but 350 miles due south)! Taken on my way to meet Vickey for a photowalk on the east side of the island.
Fantastic picture.

Beautiful b&w image! How wonderful that you are able to spend this time on BI which is such a fabulous contrast to Chicago! You have the best of both worlds! I hope your photowalk was rewarding! Fav!

Would be fun to jog here ………this is how my backyard looks like😍

Amazing to see an almost empty road around Chicago! Its lovely in this silvery finish!

@maggiemae Ooops...I wasn't clear...this is on Beaver Island which is 350 miles plus a 2 hour ferry ride north of Chicago. Same Lake Michigan, but a very different world!

@pamknowler Thanks Pam -- it was a great photo walk -- I missed the snake eating the frog, but caught his huge 'smile' afterwards...will post it tomorrow as I'm still working on it (very cluttered area as it was in the woods). Vickey saw the whole thing, but I couldn't get there fast enough.

How wonderful to have a peek at the surroundings of your summer home! It bears the same weighted resemblance between Los Angeles and Nova Scotia! We "big city girls" decidedly need this breather each year! Lovely!

What a magical place you have for your summers. Great on black! fAV!

Love this in B&W.

The long distance runner has found a friend, how good is that. The people really emphasise the size of the trees.

Such a range of tones and splendid subject

What a contrast to Chicago! My kind of road, this one. Love it and love the wee runners down there giving it scale.

Great leading line

I love the B&W, it looks like a lovely peaceful place :)

Looks so deserted, yes a lonely road alright.
Nice shot.
August 18th, 2018
nice b/w edit. I take it sloptown comes from the pig farms?
August 18th, 2018
Awesome comp and processing - fav
August 18th, 2018
The runners give it scale. Well done.
August 18th, 2018
This is a great shot and even better on black. Lots of detail
August 18th, 2018
I would never have imagined a road like this being very close to Chicago.
August 18th, 2018
@skipt07 It's not close at all -- 350 miles and a 2 hour ferry ride away! But it's on the same lake.
August 18th, 2018
@taffy - Your commentary confused me. You mentioned that it is your intersection on your way into town and I assumed that it was nearby. When I saw the two figures I thought of Andy and Opie walking with their poles to the fishing hole.
August 18th, 2018
@skipt07 Ah, thanks! I cleared up the narrative which was, reading it again, totally confusing!

What a picturesque drive into town - even with the dirt roads and the very down to earth road name. (Sloptown Rd - I had to laugh!)

Brilliant B/W...Fav

Wonderful shot
August 18th, 2018
You have such rich detail in this scene. I really do feel like I am there.
August 18th, 2018
Perfect in b and w and such a sense of solitude
August 19th, 2018
Oh dear, looks like you need traffic lights - not! Love the feeling of space and nature, no wonder you like being there.
August 19th, 2018
@bill_fe Yes, pig farms was the reason...none left on the road, but the name stayed.
August 19th, 2018
This really draws your eye down xx
August 19th, 2018
I don't think I'd mind this kind of traffic one bit! We actually do have dirt roads in our community, but they're not as pretty as this one. And there were never any pig farms on them. Great shot!
