This is the same raccoon that @ukandie1 posted yesterday -- http://365project.org/ukandie1/365/2021-05-14 as seen on our birding photo walk at Jarvis Bird Sanctuary. We think it should be renamed to Raccoon Sanctuary as they were everywhere. This one was very interested in us and getting closer and closer -- until we realized he could smell the open granola bar. I had to eat it quickly!
It sounds like he is used to being fed by park goers. Not such a good thing but it did afford you with one excellent close-up in the daytime! He must have adjusted his internal clock because they are usually nocturnal. Great catch- and quick thinking!
Of the dozens upon dozens of photos I've taken of raccoons, nothing comes close to the quality of this beauty! Of note, they were all out in the daytime? I never saw any until after dark and none actually posed for me as well as this!
