Across the Pond in B&W by taffy

Across the Pond in B&W

It was a beautiful day today! This was taken from the center of Lincoln Park, looking south across the pond toward downtown Chicago. Lincoln Park is a wonderful area just west of the lake (Lake Michigan) -- an urban oasis with a little farm, the zoo, a driving range, running and bike paths, and wetlands. In the winter, there's ice skating. I also did this in color (in my main album: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-03-31) which gives it a very different feel. I am leaning toward color but am curious about what others think.
Interesting how the b&w makes it feel like a cold winter day when compared to the color . . .

I like the color but I prefer the b&w which you are doing so well also in other photos. I love your city scenes. Another fav for me.

Man, both are beautiful, but I think that I prefer the timelessness of the b&w here. I am usually such a color girl. Fav. By the way...thinking of a Chicago trip late April, early May. Maybe we can meet up! I'll keep you posted.

beautiful choice for the black and white

Black and white for me. There is a certain crispness to this one that I find really appealing.

Great shot, I looked at both versions, think this one has a slight edge for me

Like both shots, but the B/W is more dramatic!!

@jyokota It is interesting that it looks colder. In a way, to me it masked what season it was as it took away the browns.

@carolmw @dreamatrix @sjouk (thanks for the fav!) @vankrey @photodude @amandal (thanks for the fav and DO let me know when you're coming up. I'm here til about the 3rd week in May, then back again late August). @darylo
I appreciate your sharing your reasons for leaning to the B&W. I do see that it is more timeless and the sky is more dramatic, to me, as well. Thanks!

Great in B&W.

@taffy maybe I'm just projecting that white = cold because of all the snow around here.

I prefer this shot as I think it brings out the details of the buildings more than the other. I see the shapes more clearly as well.

@judis Comments have led me to the same conclusion. I started with the color one as my favorite.

Looked at the color first and this second- and now I'm going to go against the crowd and say I like the color better! This looks like a gray day to me in black and white and although I like what it does to the clouds, I prefer the lovely contrast of gold/brown and blue/white sky in the color version.

I like the b&w much better. The brown grass in the color version distracts from the skyline. Great picture

Very nice cityscape. I like both, but I do love architectural stuff in b&w

Love it., fav! saw it on discussion boards about shots two ways. The b and w one is amazing!

@espyetta Thanks MaryBeth! I couldn't get over how it changed the mood totally in b&w.
