My get pushed partner, Anita Russell - @neatz - challenged me to use a mirror to create a selfie. Since I am not fond of selfies (my own -- others are fine), it was a serious challenge this week! For this one, I combined two images so that the selfie would be large enough to be clear, but both were taken from approximately the same place. First I photographed the tunnel with the train coming (you can see the lights way at the end). Then, I took about 4 steps closer to the mirror, using Live View to capture the selfie. In post processing, I first converted and then edited the tunnel to get it to the way I wanted, then converted the second shot to b&w and wiped the b&w away from the mirror. Then, cropped the second shot so only the mirror was in it. I set the tunnel shot as background in a one-photo collage using Picasa. Cleaned up the corners of the mirror shot so that it blended it better.
This is great Taffy and clever how you have processed it. I love the black and white of the tunnel together with the coloured mirror and Selfie. How did you crop the circular mirror can you do that? I love the creative thinking behind the shot too. I don't do selfies that's why I stay clear of Get pushed.
Tunnel vision! Love it. Very creative selfie and love the tunnel in b&w and selfie in the mirror in color. Looks like I am repeating Elaine's comment, but only just saw it. Great job.
@elaine55 Thanks so much Elaine! For the cropping, first I used 'square' to crop the circle as tight as I could. Then, after I combined the two images, I used 'Clone' in Aperture to clone out the sharp edges and turn it into a circle.
OK, Taffy, you are officially AMAZING!! I am constantly impressed at the amount of work and energy that you put into your shots, and the brilliant results!! I bow down... :-)
That is awesome. Very clever shot. I am so impressed that you made a journey to get this! Love the shadows in the subway as well. Did you add in the mirror or was it at the station. If it was in situ, then to get your self in it and take this is incredible. If you added it in it is brilliant as well as it looks like it is part of the station. Well done, I love it when someone goes the extra mile.....ha ha...literally!
Thanks for sharing your technique with us. It is very effective, and a good choice for the selective color technique. I keep selfies to a minimum to avoid viewer trauma.
@salza Thanks for the comment about SC, Sally, as it made me realize that I hadn't explained anything about the second photo. I've revised the description to be clear.

Aw, thanks so much for such kind words. I'm humbled! Mostly I just hate taking selfies and wanted to fulfill the challenge without having to do any closeup in a mirror! Necessity, the mother of invention!
@taffy I think if we've pushed ourselves then we satisfied the challenge. Combine two pictures so well, sounds like a challenge to me and you are there.
Great appreciation for the creativity, in addition to the b&w/color juxtaposition with looking forward/behind, there is another in relationship to the sharpness of the image looking forward/behind.
