Hay Bales in Black & White by taffy

Hay Bales in Black & White

Spent quite a bit of time on processing these hay bales today. This is for fortnight of b&w with an emphasis on shape.

Main album has color version:

Stunning picture and processing.

Really like how the black and white brings out the great contrasts!

Stunning. Really like it in B&W, absolutely very excellently cool

Great b&w

Congratulations on making the Trending Page. Well deserved.

I really like the receding repetition in this shot Taffy. An excellent choice for the challenge.

Wonderful subject for black and white, nice details

Beautiful in B&W as well but I prefer your color photo. Great shot for the challenge.

Nice soft processing...really looks good in B&W!

Great composition, although I think I prefer the colour version too! I've never seen round hay bales here - for some reason straw is baled round, and hay generally as smaller square bales.

I prefer the b&w version here

The b&W helps your eyes focus on only the texture, but there was something very lovely about your use of color, too.

This is so painterly. The textures are incredible. Would love the sky to be brought out a tad more, but I just love the angles and perspective.

Lovely B&W image but in this case I prefer your treatment in the colour version which seems to have better light and texture.

like the texture here..

This looks stunning in b&w too, but I think the colour one has a slight edge over it because the colours are so warm and inviting.

Lovely, great pov and textures, great in the b&w
August 19th, 2014
Lovely but the colour one really sings

I saw your comment on my horse picture. Well, I've wanted to take a hay picture but the only ones I've seen have been on a busy road lined with crosses (if you get what I mean). I'm seeing now what @vignouse is telling me about things on the diagonal making a good picture.

Interesting sometimes to be able to make a comparison between two versions of the same shot - I like them both but I think the B&W has my vote. That said, I would have liked to have seen a bit more contrast and would have preferred that you had removed the utilities pole as you did in the colour version. Small niggles in an otherwise very pleasing image.

I had the same B&W/colour dilemma with my second album shot yesterday and eventually settled for the colour one - I think I will follow your example and go back and post the B&W one as well.

Oh I love this one less sky more field. Amazing shot. FAV

This looks amazing. Time well spent in processing.

This image looks great in both mono and color. I prefer the color due to the sky having more texture, but the mono is also lovely.

beautiful shot! Inspiration.

I like both versions for different reasons. I've been taking pictures of these babies all summer; haven't liked any. Looking at these shots, I'm thinking that getting quite a bit closer would have helped.

Great processing. Love the composition too.

Looks good in b&w

I would never have thought of b/w for this kind of shot. Adds an interesting dimension.

Wonderful study in textures! I'm starting to really appreciate what can be done in b&w. The composition and perspective make it special though.

@francoise Being close is what I discovered as well. I had taken some at a distance and they just were lost in a less than interesting scene overall.
