Perhaps I have too much time on my hands this weekend. Perhaps I'm tired of Niagara Falls shots. Perhaps I'm obsessed with 3D in Photoshop and hadn't used it for several days. Perhaps there is no excuse for this. But it was fun and I quite liked the outcome. Perhaps I'm just overtired and should call it a night!
Thank you for your wonderful response to my Niagara series! There may be a few more, but I think it's time to move on to something different.
Wow I love your 3D filter, you do such creative and innovative collaborations within your own shots. This looks so fun, cool reflection and great forced perspective creation!
And 'praps you liked it because it's darned good, eye-catching, visually intriguing, colourful, and great composition. Fav. Love what you're doing with 3D.
OK...So what the heck have you done?!!! I don't recognize this sculpture (is it actually real?) This has bits in it that make me think of Millennium Park...and then I can't figure out WHAT you've done! It's totally cool and looks like it was a lot of fun...whatever it was you did to all those reflective surfaces! Cool!
@Weezilou Haha!! It's a picture taken looking west over the river. Then, I created a second layer (yep, I did it!!!) in Photoshop. Then, on that layer, I went to 3D and a thing called 'mesh' that takes you to shapes. I picked donut. Then, I spent the next hour using four little controls at the top menu bar to move it around in what I think is supposed to be strategic, but for me was mostly random until I got it where I wanted it. Then saved quickly so I wouldn't lose it by moving it by accident. Really, it was fun, but so frustrating. I must watch a video and learn to do this the way it's intended to work!
@taffy OMG you're funny! You've certainly begun working Photoshop by jumping into the deep end! But funniest of all (to me) was your last sentence!! I buy all this fun preset stuff and do I spend time reading how to use it... "Noooooo-o-o-o" That would be too much like work! I need some internet access in a closet in an empty cabin in the mountains and *maybe* then I could actually study and learn without bizillion daily distractions.....
@taffy ...oh, and "The Doughnut" is so "Bean-like" that I'm seeing "The River" as there the Spittie Fountains are in M.P! And the wall on the right looks like the wall along the street going past the Art Institute... OK,, it's all a jumble like a dream to me! Time to return to Chicago and get my bearings straight!
Wow this is mind blowing! I thought it was the Bean somehow but having read what you did I realise it isn't. You are so far ahead of me on layers and I haven't even found the 3D effect! Lol!
Louise' s @Weezilou question about The Rookery reminded me I wanted to ask should we be buying tickets for anything yet or are we waiting until we are there? I know you said The Rookery was not open for tours that week which is a shame. I will email later.
@Weezilou I was going to send everyone the bad news...there is no tour that week. I've tried to get us a private tour and can't get one. They are apparently very strict on the access. When are you coming into Chicago? There is one the week before and the week after. If you're here, I'd meet you there and YES, tickets in advance is important to do. CAF.org is the website. The boat tour is on for sure, and there are bunches of others we could choose from, but not, sadly, the Rookery.
@Weezilou Mmmm...just had a thought! I'm going to check out the FLW association -- I wonder if they do tours on days that the CAF does not...I'll get on it tomorrow!
@pamknowler I think the best thing to do is for you (or you four) to browse the CAF website and see if any of the tours appeal. I don't mind going over to get tickets. All our photowalk plans will start mid-afternoon so any tour that is in the morning or noon-time would work fine. The only one NOT to do in advance is the boat tour -- we should do that once we know the weather, and plan for a morning one when the sun/lighting is good for photography. As a member, a lot are free...so depending on how you are making use of their tours, it may be worth joining. You also get a free ticket to the boat as well...it's explained on the website. Just a thought... @Weezilou
@pixiemac@rosiekind see Taffy's comments above. We need to check out the CAF.org website to see if there are any tours we want to do and if it's worth joining. I can't remember Donna's name on here Sarah so could you pass the message on.
@salza I'd benefit if you do research! Right now I'm basically mucking around which is helping me not be intimidated by PS so much. And I"m narrowing down the tools and concepts that are hard for me. So, it's been a fun way to get into the program.
Mind-blowing image! You are definitely mastering intriguing PS techniques.
Just know that you are truly an inspiration to me and many 365ers who can't wait to see what you'll post next! (No pressure:)
@jgpittenger Any time! But remember to use the word 'teach' here loosely. It will consist of showing you where the controls are, without actually knowing how they work! But let's do it when you get a chance. I'll be around!
And should you ever think about not posting an image you took or played with just for the fun of it, perhaps you'll remember how much we enjoyed this one. Fav. Thanks for the photoshop summary.
Yah...like THAT's going to happen...

@Weezilou
Nice art work!
