Chicago's Union Station Grand Staircase - Color by taffy

Chicago's Union Station Grand Staircase - Color

Union Station (building with the columns posted a few days ago) has undergone a major renovation and is living up to its grand history at 'the crossroads of America.' This is one of two similar staircases, one of which played a major role in a scene in the movie, The Untouchables, with a runaway - and occupied - baby carriage.
I liked both color and b&w so decided to post both versions.
B&W in main album for FlashOfRed2017: https://365project.org/taffy/365/2017-02-06
Very cool shot!

After going back and forth I like this one better because of the warm tones on the ceiling and walls. Terrific shot.

I love this! I'm slightly preferring the colour one because of the warm colour.
February 7th, 2017
I agree with @dyanstevens the warm tones draw my eye up and through the cool fisheye tunnel.

Yes I am with the other ... like the tones of this one... fantastic staircase.

Colossal capture captivates my attention. Strong fav

The lighting and clarity fascinate me - wonderful - and can't decide which I prefer - color of b&w. Usually I'd say b&w - but there's something unique about these tones. Fav

Incredible picture and perspective.
February 7th, 2017
Amazing!
February 7th, 2017
Love the symmetry and perspective and the way you've made it less obvious

I love this very cool image. I actually prefer the colour, as it is so subtle.
February 7th, 2017
Love this.... and has given me an idea of where I need to return to.... New York!
February 7th, 2017
Love it and the black and white. So going to comment once but fav twice.
February 7th, 2017
Stunning -- prefer this to the black and white as has warmth and the perspective is more prominent !
February 7th, 2017
Wonderful

Looks like the painting by Parmigianino. Cool effect! https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoritratto_entro_uno_specchio_convesso

Love the symmetry, colour and clarity :)

February 7th, 2017
This is fabulous Taffy!! I know where I want to go!! LOL!! I prefer this colour version I think - the colour of that ceiling just makes the shot!! Fav!
February 7th, 2017
Very impressive architecture.
February 7th, 2017
Nice effect - fav!
February 7th, 2017
I like this one a tad more. The colour just adds ... more.
Did you use a fisheye for the distortion or post processing?
February 7th, 2017
Wow, fabulous!
February 7th, 2017
fisheye worked really good in this one :)
February 7th, 2017
super shot, love the effect and tones
February 7th, 2017
This is fantastic. Love the wide angle.
February 7th, 2017
Wonderful capture, great lines and fish-eye image
February 7th, 2017
Great capture
February 7th, 2017
I think I like this one because the handrails and lights show up better I think. Superb shot both the b&w and this one.

Crikey, what a magic shot Taffy. So good with the fisheye, just pulls you straight into the midst of the image. Is this still a functioning railway station, or being converted into something else?
February 7th, 2017
@golftragic Yes, still really active -- in fact to my right in this image were about 100 people in lines waiting to board their trains!
February 7th, 2017
@deborah63 Yes, this was with a fisheye lens, used when taking the image.
February 7th, 2017
Cool! The 10.5 F/2.8 lens? I like the lens a lot, for real fisheye, and also corrected to give you very wide angle...

@taffy That's great to hear, I love to see such buildings retain their intended use. And this sure is one grand building.
February 8th, 2017
@frankhymus Yes, that's the one. I just change the D610 to DX (nice feature) and then it works well. For WA, I'm just as happy with my FF lens - the 14-24.

I think the tones in the colour version just edged it ahead for me, but both are equally fabulous for composition and subject.
February 8th, 2017
Really beautiful! I like your choice of more muted colors and how you brought out the detail in the stone. Perspective is wonderful!
February 8th, 2017
I absolutely love this shot, Taffy. Fish eye lens works miracles in photos when you know what you are doing. Not sure I am saying this right but you balanced this photo so well on each side. So much detail. FAV
February 8th, 2017
Love the color, fish eye, perspective, symmetry, detail
February 9th, 2017
Great shot. Definitely prefer the colour
February 9th, 2017
