365

Today, I finished my 365 project. Time to celebrate!
My first year goals were to create a new photograph every day. That usually meant getting the camera out and photographing something. A few days were creating composites or special edits. There were also a couple of days that I just couldn't make time for a new photo, and one day that I just forgot. Mostly, though, I used my camera every day. Part of the reason that I chose this interpretation of the 365 project was to familiarize myself with my camera. I definitely accomplished that objective. Some settings on my camera have become second nature to me.
I've enjoyed the challenges--especially get pushed. I've learned techniques that I didn't even realize existed.
I've really enjoyed the community here. The members of this site are incredibly supportive.
I'm not going away, but I am going to operate by different rules for the next year. Coming up with an idea for a new photograph, and executing on that idea every day has gotten to be a bit of a chore. I'm glad I'm done. My objective for the first year has led me to make some irrational decisions. For example, I might put off taking a photo that would be convenient to do, today, because I already have a photograph for today. Also, there are times that I have several good shots from one outing, but I constrain myself to post only one on my main album, because those are my rules--a new photograph every day.
For the next year I will try to post something new every day, but it might not be from that day's shoot. We'll see where year 2 takes me. I've enjoyed year 1, but I'm glad to be done with it.

Congratulations! And I totally echo your thoughts there. After Year 1, I decided to not care if I had gaps or if I posted more than one shot from a place. I tend to do holidays in retrospect when I have had a chance to get home and look at what's on the camera on my computer. It's liberating to not have to do it every day, though most days I still find myself with something. It's just nice to no longer care if I don't!

I have really enjoyed your images and your creativity this past year. Thanks for being a part of 365.

Hi Tim, I am sure you will enjoy your new relaxed approach as well. It does not necessarily mean that you are not going to use your camera every day, but you will have more freedom in your postings. It will be a pleasure to continue to follow you through your pictures.

Some interesting statistics:
My first picture in this project was image 2789.
This one is 9636. That's almost 7000 images in a year, and it doesn't count cell phone pictures.

Congratulations! I'm glad you've decided to continue. There's always something new to learn, and it's so nice to be able to share it with like-minded people. Here's to your next year!
