UFO

This is from a few days ago - early morning, a long exposure, no editing - SOOC. Isn't it interesting?
That is very interesting indeed! I guess the cirrus cloud stopped exactly in the middle of the moon? I love sun and moon halos! And refraction. :-)

Very interesting looking moon and a great shot. It kind of does look like a UFO.

Must have been really cold? Ice crystals in the air
January 19th, 2015
Yes, it is. Like it.

@adambralston Well, it was cold ... but not crazy cold. I'm thinking about 32 F . Would that cause this effect?

I must have seen this on FB as I thought I had commented on it already...sigh! Awesome capture and a FAV Emilie. Very cool.

@teiko Definitely cold enough - plus it's colder in the air for sure. Some of it could just be lens flare as well. But, I don't think so because you can also see the rainbow like oil surface sheen in the clouds below the moon. Eh, here's something I just googled about ice crystal halos. Ever hear of a sun dog? Google that too. Similar phenomena.

We had sun dogs twice this past year, and go figure I didn't have my camera with me for either time.

@adambralston Wow that's so interesting - thank you for the reference! The pictures that most match mine refer to a lunar corona. No I have never heard of a sun dog before but now I am on a mission to see one. Fantastic!
