this old 102hp walker railmotor used to service the Wodonga to Tallangatta branch line...it made its last run along the scenic hume weir route in 1961 and has rested here since then ....the rail lines were removed and the route is now a popular bicycle path....
Just Googled it and it was relocated in the 1950s so they must have relocated the town and then possibly ran the service for a short time afterwards until the old town was flooded. very interesting
@mccarth1 ...thanks Kerry...i wish i had my bike with me today...the train followed the edge of lake hume and.as it was a train line there were no big hills so perfect for a bike track...
so cool, somehow I knew this was your shot even before I saw your name! Not sure why as you don't always shoot the same subjects, just had a feel about it. Nice job - love the composition especially.
Great shot - looks a great place to ride bikes - in NZ we have a lovely rail trail in Central Otago - it's 150 km long and is great fun. The trail has revived some small towns along the way and during the summer they are busy with accommodation, meals, transportation of bags etc.
Wow! Thanks John!! This is so similar to the train I went to secondary school in Echuca for 6 years. I do not have any photos of one, so I'm loving this. Ours was a special school train that left Kyabram, through Tongala and onto Echuca. We actually got taken to the old wharf (not restored then!) and walked to school. Thanks for the memories :) I think our rail line was linked to Tallangatta too. May have to go up there!
@gilbertwood ...hi Denise....thankyou for your kind comments and glad that it has brought back those fond memories...it is so beautiful along the murray..must have been fantastic for you growing up there...cheers
