Tamron vs Tokina wide angle zooms

So I really liked the Tamron 10-24 f3.5-4.5 (left) but noticed when shooting a flat plane that the corners were quite soft.

Compare this to the Tokina 11-20 F2.8 (right) and boy is there a world of difference. It is really close to my Rokinon 16mmf2 that I love.

It seems like the more I learn, the pickier I get. The Tamron cleans up at F7.1 nicely, but after checking my Day1 comparison shots against my Nikon 17-35 It replaced, it was always like this.

Now I know and now you know!
thanks for this as I've just spent a bit of time outside this afternoon playing with settings as part of my homework - so I'm actually starting to absorb just a little of the technical points and even checking the exif info here quite often. this is a great comparison

Sometimes it comes down to what you can afford though it appears your preference may also be the better buy if I have looked it up right. I am o not a technical person. Think it is why I stick mostly to one lens. But if you understand that is good for your photography.

@koalagardens the exif information is one of my favorite parts of this site for me as well!

@joansmor I would say it always comes down to what you can afford, but money doesn't always equate to quality, and it almost never equates to skill. I bet most everyone here has favorite shots they made with quite modest equipment, and is following someone that Inspires them while working with either a point and shoot or cell phone.

You are correct that this time the cheaper lens is also the sharper lens, this is kind of a public service announcement for those looking into these or other lens to do your homework, and try to test them before buying. Luckly in this case I can sell one to pretty much payfor the other.
