The moonsnail (right) uses secretions to soften the clam shell(left) then uses is tongue as a rasp to drill a hole in it (as shown) so it can eat the clam.
oh I vaguely remember something about this from childhood lessons and wondering why those shells on the beach often had a convenient hole drilled to thread them!
A beautifully organized shot - and such a good tale to go with it - it makes the photo a little sinister if viewed from the the clam shell's perspective. :)
@ingajohansson@jernst1779 Thanks, I wanted to hilight the yellows on the snail shell, but give it an "underwater aquarium" effect as well. It ends up that blue body wash is a pretty good flash filter!
