As I was getting ready to pack up after taking the night sky shots (yesterday's posting), I became aware of a strange glow behind me.
I turned around there they were, the Min Min Lights. Managed just the one shot before they faded and disappeared altogether. I was gobschmacked.
So for everyone who asked the question a couple of days ago, Yes I saw the Min MIn Lights.
whoa - are they the 7 lights here? amazingly cool. Thanks for the link - I had no idea what min min lights were. I still don't lol but I understand what you meant now. WAAAY cool!
I'm just as confused as @elatedpixie after reading all the info!!! Or is @landownunder on the right track :) Regardless I have to fav is as it's fascinating :)
Just as well you did not chase the lights and catch them, since it is said those people never return to tell the tale.
Great capture of the Milky Way as well as those Min Min lights.
Never heard of Min Min lights, but appreciate the Wikipedia reference. I'm still not sure what they are. Nice job capturing them along with the night sky.
Thank you all the comments and favs on my Min Min lights shot. However, as some of you figured out, all is not what it seems here and I deliberately left a big clue in this shot and the previous night sky shot as to what was going on.
If you look at the road in the first posting, you will see the shadow of myself standing alongside the tripod. Look at the second and there is just the tripod.
So where am I?
Running around out the front with an LED torch quickly flicking it on and off to create the lights :-)
The idea came to me while I was taking the regular shots and was completely unplanned. I was very surprised at how well it came out. I cant see any trace of me or blurring of the shot around the lights at all.
So are the lights myth or fact? The Wikipedia reference suggests they are real but personally I don't think so.
I saw this shot a couple of days ago but didn't have chance to comment. I was going to say 'nice bit of editing Terry', but so many people thought it was for real that I didn't want to spoil it for them.
Did you see any spaceships while you were out there too? I am sure you could find one if you really tried.
Since you are now a considered expert on Min Min lights,, you could add your hypothesis to this wikipedia reference. Makes for interesting reading but even better night sky photography - love your night sky image with or without the lights. I'll have to google where this is as were are heading to Brisbane and heading further North in early September in search of some sun and landscapes/sunrise photo opportunities of course.
