Day 3: Closing Speed - 220 kph

Heading west on the Flinders Highway towards Cloncurry.

Just about every second vehicle you come across on the outback highways is a road train of some description and it is fun to try to capture them just as they pass you while keeping one hand on the steering wheel and half an eye on the road.

I have now learned that the maximum legal length for a road train is 53.5 mtrs. This one is only a 3 trailer and nowhere near that length.

And I have no idea why 53.5 and not 50 or 55mtrs However I can just imagine attempting unsuccessfully to overtake a 53.5mtr one and your last thought being "Buggar!! That last .5 mtr did me in".

PS. Just kidding, Rhoda was driving. It's much scarier looking from the driver's seat.

Oh, my goodness, that is scary. I've never seen a truck pull more than 1 tanker. Here some trucks pull two small cargo boxes and even those are hard to handle in the wind.
