Noisy Miner aka Micky Bird by terryliv

Noisy Miner aka Micky Bird

First addendum to my week of birds in our backyard.

Wouldn't you know it!! Only a couple of hours after I posted the photos of the Rainbow Lorikeet, the first of the recalcitrants, a family of Noisy Miners, arrived in the Callistemon outside our kitchen window and stayed still long enough for me to get some shots of them. Despite being very regular visitors, I have never posted a shot of them before and can't recall ever even photographing them before.

Micky Birds live in family groups and are honey eaters as well as feeding on small insects. They are very common all along eastern Australia from the tropics through into South Australia.

And just to prove a point, this guy has a bug in its beak.

I always intended to finish the series with the Rainbow Lorikeets and when it looked like there was not going to be any other bird species to show, I posted the the lorikeet shots at 6:41am 02 November.(I just had a look). The micky bird shots were taken at 7:32 on 02 Nov. Less than an hour later. Bastards. 😊
Another great bird beautifully captured.

Trust it to turn up and spoil the party! interestingly we really don't see them down here - but go 30kms inland and they start turning up :)

@koalagardens You can put me on that list Katrina. That is probably why I have never bothered to post a photograph of them.

When we first moved into our then brand new house, we had a family of Striated Pardolotes trying to make a nest in a dirt wall I was digging out. That was until the Micky Birds chased them out and we never saw them again. They have been in my bad books ever since.

Theses birds are in my bad books. I live in Melbourne where they have driven all the small birds out of my yard.
