It has only been in the last couple of days that this season's baby butcher birds have been around the house. Turns out there are two of them so well done mum and dad. Here one of them is getting a feed from mum just outside our kitchen window.
Beautiful photo, Poppo! And great timing on the shutter button. I viewed large in an attempt to see what was being fed to the youngster but still am not sure. That's gorgeous wood they're standing on. Love the way the leaves grow out of the limb.
Again, thanks for taking the time to have a peek at my pictures, this time my little snowman photo. There was no distinction between him and the snow-covered ground so I scooped him up and put on the corner post of the llama enclosure. Had there not been so much snow in that corner, I'm sure I would've had a llama nose in the photo before too long.
@lyndemc The answers to both questions will disappoint. The baby is being fed cat food (minced kangaroo meat). We have been feeding successive generations of this family of butcher birds for twenty or so years so as soon as the young start following the parents around, they were down at our window. I just kept putting out small pieces of meat on the window sill for the parent and then photographing her feeding the baby in the tree. Took a number of pics like this one but the problem was that the baby kept turning its head away from the camera when it was receiving the meat so most of them were spoiled. Got plenty of good shots of it looking at me with the meat in its mouth.
And the tree is just a Foxtail Palm so the "wood" is not wood at all but a palm frond. Sorry about that.
What a super shot, Poppo! Love the colors and detail. Enjoyed learning how you're helping with the feeding AND getting good shots - can't beat a combination like that.
