Lizard Day 1 by terryliv

Lizard Day 1

I had thrown some chicken scraps out the kitchen window for the magpies and butcher birds to fight over. When I looked out a few minutes later, there was this big blue tongue lizard sidling across the lawn with a big piece of the carcass in its mouth with the bemused magpies looking on.
Grabbed the camera and raced downstairs and got a couple of shots before he disappeared into a hole in the rocks. They are beautiful lizards.
He looks like he has eaten quite a bit.

He's a brave lad, daring to take the offerings put out for the magpies and butcher birds! Handsome markings he's got. Those little legs must get a real workout, moving that body about.

No offense but I like the Kookaburra photos better. I'm just not a reptile person. They are somewhat interesting though, as long as they are just on my computer. Your wife is a really good sport!

At first, because of his beautiful skin, I thought it was a snake. How large is he?
December 4th, 2014
@cejaanderson This guy was about 45cm (18ins). Apparently they can grow to about 60cm. They are the largest member of the skink family.

@pamknowler @tahoemb You would be surprised. They are beautiful and are very quiet and dignified looking. I'm sure you would change your mind if you met one.

I was going to ask how big they are but I see you answered - so you can spot him from a distance. Really nice markings. Those legs are pretty strong looking.
