Came across this "house" while driving around a few days ago. Quickly grabbed a couple of photos before a guy appeared at the front door yelling to/at me at which point I casually moved on.
Around the corner was a beautiful Magnolia in someone's yard and I stopped to get some pics. Got to talking to the owner (of the magnolia) and he told me that the "house" belongs to an Italian who migrated to Oz about 30 years ago with his wife. After his arrival he declared he was going to build a "castle for his queen' ie his wife and so he set about doing just that. He must have started in 1990 (just to the left of the clock) and obviously planned to have it finished by 2020 (to the right of the clock.
The whole scheme went pear shaped when his queen up and left him at which point, he lost interest (don't blame him).
As Dale Kerrigan would have said "Tell 'im he's dreamin." Sorry O/S 365ers, you wont get that one but I am sure all the Aussies will.
Great colour scheme. Looks good on black
Haha, wow what a monstrosity. It certainly would catch the eye. And on another note, the house used in "The Castle" is only 10 minutes from my house. And backs off the relatively small Essendon airport, not the Tullamarine airport as depicted in the movie. I'm full of facts this week haha.
We should have a weekly theme on residences that are unusual. I think every town and city has them. Most people who own them would be delighted to have you take a picture of them. If my dh had built this place I might have left him.
How sad for that poor fellow. What a great job he's done and really, if he's going to build something like that he must expect people to stop and take photos! Not my kind of house at all but I can see how much work has gone into it.
This most definitely has to be one-of-a-kind. When it first opened, I'm thinking "Is that pink?" - Guess it is! Don't think there's much room for more architectural detail here. Great shot of this wonder.
I think I know why she left. He probably thought you were paparazzi (that's Italian, isn't it?) How do you build something like that and not expect people to want to photograph it?
@stray_shooter@joansmor I did say he was yelling at/to me. For all I know, he may have been inviting me in for a cuppa (did you like that Ron?). On the other hand, he may have been telling me to sod off.
