First Attempt by terryliv

First Attempt

In amongst all the grandkids being here, I managed to get myself a new tele zoom lens - a Tamron SP 70-300 Di VC USD. It is the first separate lens I have ever bought and today I finally got the chance to have a go at using it.
In the absence of any distant objects to focus on, I settled on shooting a White Cockatoo that was sitting on the roof.
The lens got very good reviews across a number of sites but I have no idea yet how good or otherwise it is.
One thing, the Vibration Compensation (VC) seems to work extremely well.
Looks like the lens is spot on and the camera operator knows what he is doing also. Great photo - fav

Wow, this was on the roof. Terrific zoom and focus. I'm super jealous. Is the lens heavy?

I use the Tamron 70-300 and love it. I used it on all three of my recent bird pictures. I got it for bird pictures and have not been disappointed. Great shot here. It was my first and only separate so far.

Fantastic detail at that range Terry.

Whoa! What a shot! I'd never have guessed he was clear up on the roof. It looks like he's perched right next to you, hangin' out like the 'Toos like to do in your yard. Congrats on that new lens. Looks like you'll get on famously with it.

@888rachel Bloody oath its heavy Rachel. So, yes, it's glass. I'll tell you a funny story about it next time we meet up.
April 29th, 2015
@oly I wouldn't go that far Stuart!! @lyndemc @888rachel I should have been more specific. It was on the roof off the back patio and I was standing on the back lawn which is about a metre higher that the patio floor. It was probably only about 4mtrs from me. There was only a bit of a crop on both edges to remove some of the blue sky

@hermann I thought that was interesting too Sally. The other side was just a small amount of the sulphur colouring.

Fantastic shot with your super new lens. I think I would need a trolley to carry it around though. My neck would be really complaining.
