Eucalyptus Flowers 2

This is a pic of Eucalyptus Ptychocarpa taken last Thursday, the day we arrived home. The Eucalyptus species takes its name from the cap which covers the flower. As the stamens grow, the cap is forced off the cup base as in the flower in the top right. Because the ptychocarpa flowers are so large, these caps are easily seen around the base of the tree.
