For the record, Hughenden (pop'n 1,100) is the largest town between Charters Towers and Cloncurry (640km) and is the location of the Flinders Shire Council. The Flinders Shire covers and area of 46,000 sq km (cf Wales 20,700 sq km) and has a population of 1,400. In 1961, the population was 3,900.
