Week: 9 No Theme

We went away for a few days. Needed to get away from everything and just breathe. It's been a rough 8 weeks.

Getting lost in nature is good for the soul.

Star gazing and trying my first attempt at Astrophotography in Australia's only Dark Sky Park - Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran, Australia.

The sky was absolutely breathtaking.

Here's a bit of the Galactic Centre (The Milky Way) and the Southern Cross (Crux) with the Warrumbungles in the distance. So many shooting stars too!

The Southern Cross star constellation can only be seen in the southern hemisphere as it never rises above the horizon in northern skies.

We have the Southern Cross on our flag here in Australia too 🇦🇺

And it's also a popular tattoo design.

Taken with my Canon 5D mark ii, with a 14mm 2.8 wide angle lens and an equatorial mount for my tripod.
This is your first go at astro? Wowee.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond yes! I can't wait to do it more. So many things I want to experiment with. It was so peaceful and the clarity of the sky, just wow!

@aussiechic29 is this one shot or layers?? It's really pretty. I was surprised how small the Southern Cross is but amazed at the Milky Way's clarity when I saw them in Perth!

Something I have never tried because I’m not sure where I can go to get a sky without ambient light. If this is your first attempt it is beyond impressive!

@jacqbb thank you. Are you close to some rural spots? Even semi rural? It's quite the sight of to see a starry night!

@grammyn thank you! I'm looking forward to doing more. Are you near rural or semi rural areas? It's a sight to see - a sky full of stars!

@aussiechic29 I imagine it would be at least a 30minute or more drive for me to get far eough away from city lights to be able to see what you show here

Wonderful and a treat to see the Southern Cross. Milky Way galactic center isn’t very visible right now in the Northern Hemisphere either. Great first Astro photography

@aussiechic29 I’ll try to find something when it’s warmer here. In my area there are a lot of streetlamps. Let you know if I find something!
