Drooping Sassafras...

We have had a long run of very hot, dry weather. This week we have had several days of rain (more than 2.5 inches). The Sassafras tree is showing a great deal of stress from this change. There are several trees together and they are all showing the stress!

That is sad, but they have a lovely shape like this.

Sassafras is such a nice tree. My grandkids used to chew the leaves to get the flavor. Also, the small dead twigs are great fire starters. They have so much oil in them that you can literally light them with a match.

Wow! That is a lot of rain. I have never seen a sassafras tree. It has such pretty leaves.
