I caught this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) hanging out at the base of the Brasfield Dam on the Appomattox River. The dam creates a freshwater reservoir named Lake Chesdin.
No doubt the heron has noticed that sometimes fish come over the dam in the spillway water, tumbling down as they go. The now-stunned fish make for easy pickings for hungry herons. All the bird has to do is wait patiently for the meal to arrive.
