I went to Beaver Lake at Pocahontas State Park. Just as I arrived a great blue heron took off from the far side of the lake, flying just high enough to be seen over the tops of the vegetation. I had just enough time to take the lens cap off, aim and shoot as it emerged into the clear...using whatever setting my camera had. Turns out, it was perfect. This was the first shot of about 15 that I took before it passed behind some trees, but it was the best.
