Rainbow Cirrus by timerskine

Rainbow Cirrus

I was out shooting airplanes taking off from Naval Air Station Oceana (with a camera...the US Navy frowns on other types of shooting of their aircraft). My able assistant, the Missus, came along but stayed in the truck. This allowed her to spot and point out to me these rainbow clouds (officially "iridescent clouds") over the air station.

It's an uncommon phenomenon caused when light hits ice crystals in high altitude clouds and refracts into a rainbow.

I've said many times here that the Missus has a really keen eye, but she does have her off moments. The prime example of this is the fact that, 29 years ago, she failed to notice that she was marrying me.
Your Misses does indeed have a keen eye. Love the delicate nature of these clouds.
