I went to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge in cold weather with high winds looking to get a better picture of tundra swans than I've managed to get up until now. Most of the flock was well off in the distance and those that were sort of in range for my lens were obscured behind reeds. I was just about to give up and go someplace warm when I realized that I had been silently flanked by five swans. They were also obscured by reeds but I stuck around in hopes that one would move into a clear area. I was rewarded by this youngster who chose to dabble for food in an open area.
