Hurricane

The Missus and I are volunteers at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. We meet a lot of really nice people and show them the very cool aircraft we get to hang around.

This is the Hawker Hurricane. It's not many people's idea of a good looking airplane, but as a warfighter, it was outstanding. During the Battle of Britain the Hurricane was responsible for 60% of the Nazi aircraft shot down. Despite this fierce showing, the Supermarine Spitfire got all the press because it was a really beautiful plane.

The Hurricane, along with the Museum's Spitfire and DeHavilland Mosquito, were supposed to fly today in honor of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Britain, but very high and gusty winds kept them on the ground.
Yes Tim - it isn't only that the Spit looks a lot nicer - it also sounds GREAT!
