Snake Crossing

The Missus and I were at Pocahontas State Park and meandered down to Beaver Lake. It was beautiful but not anything photogenic. As we meander back to the parking lot this eastern ratsnake was crossing the path. It's a small one, about 4 feet / 1.2 meters. They average 42 - 72 inches (106.7-183 cm) and are the only snake in Virginia that exceed 6 feet / 1.8 meters.

It was a shame that the Missus saw it before I did. She hates snakes (and sticks that look like snakes). Had I been the first to see it I would have distracted her long enough to let it move along. As it was it passed without incident, except for the Missus' case of the willies.
I'm right there with your Missus, snakes scare the ba-gebbers out of me. The size would have totally freaked me out.

Humanity apparently can be divided into those afraid of snakes and those who aren’t.

Not sure about snakes......especially dangerous ones.......I've never met one in real life...only at zoos or wildlife centres where they are well used to people.
