The first thing we planted in the garden of our new house was a Ceanothus, because I had often admired the striking blue of its flowers. Ours was a real disappointment as it was all leaves and very few flowers. Someone then told us that it liked poor soil, and all of the fertiliser we had used was the problem. The long and short of this story is that I am always stunned by the abundance of awesome flowers that some of them produce. Like this one I passed on my walk with Rosie today.
