Thanks. I've been getting over there in the evenings, so the light is slanting in very warm. I guess the mouth thing is something foals do around their moms to communicate with them. Letting mom know they are there. There is a word for it which I was told TONIGHT but have already forgotten.

@carolyns yes the foals are thin when first born according to Teresa, they seem to want to eat all the time.
