Through the early morning fog a noticed a flock of Pacific Black Ducks drop down behind the barn. I crept out to catch them but they saw me before I saw them and were gone. In their haste they startled these two pigeons up onto the gate and I was lucky enough to capture just one shot of them before they were gone too. They are so fast I consider myself very lucky to have this to share.
Crested Pigeon is their correct name but we call them topknots because of their upright black crest. They are about 30-35cm in size - a little smaller than the magpie (12th April). I love their pink legs and the metallic green to purple patch between those black bars on their wings. They are a very tidy bird. You never see one with a feather out of place - although I see the topknot on fellow on the post has been blown a little crooked by the breeze or was it the shock of seeing a silly woman with a camera creeping around through the fog.
