Herbert Peace Gray by ubobohobo

Herbert Peace Gray

In the grounds of the Ubobo State School are two tall hoop pines planted on Remembrance Day 1943 to commemorate the memory of two local boys who had lost their lives earlier in the year. You see both trees still standing tall and proud today.
One is in remembrance of Herbert Peace Gray.
Herbie, was born as peace was declared at the end of WW1- hence his name. The shorter boy in the insert, he was photographed in Jan 1934 as one of the first three students of Ubobo School to pass scholarship and go on to High School. He went on to become a teacher but when war broke out he joined the Royal Australian Airforce and headed for Europe. Sadly, he was killed in action over the Netherlands on the 4th January 1943 and is buried in the Catholic cemetry in the grounds of the Church of Saint Peters in Uden, Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands. (Now the Uden War Cemetery)
Rest in Peace Herbie.

such a tragic waste of a young life, it's great that he is remembered after 70 years.

What a fabulous photo - both the B & W and your composition - really lovely remembrance - you should tag it for the theme.
