This poor little fellow was found by a neighbour yesterday afternoon. His mother had apparently died calving because he'd wandered away and was found sleeping in the creek below our neighbour's house. No one else wanted to bottle feed a calf so we've adopted him. He's gorgeous. A local dairyfarmer is giving us colostrum, first milk from a newly calved cow, to feed to him for the first three days then we'll introduce him to a powdered milk formula especially designed for calves and foals. He was so thristy last night the first bottle I gave him disappeared in a flash. Then he drank a bottle of water as well. He looks so stong and healthy he should grow into a fine young animal. Watch this space for updates.
How sweet of you to adopt him. He's such a beautiful animal. Hopefully he will take to the bottle and grow quickly. Can't wait to see more photos of him.
Just lovely photo, sounds like he is a boy, and doing well. We sometimes have trouble with joint ills in poddies. Hope he stays strong and thrives. It is devastating when you get them going along good for a while then they die on you.
