The little spots of gold that glisten and shine on the chrysalis of a Monarch Butterfly have always fascinated me. Monarchs are flitting all over the farm as the milkweed reaches maturity. I've searched for a chrysalis for days and then this afternoon when I wasn't even looking there was one hanging from a rail in the cattle yard! A wonderful surprise.
My Grandchildren have the caterpilers on a plant at the moment. I have taken the caterpiler inside in a jar to watch the transformation last year and then let them go. But I never saw them change from caterpiller to chrysalis or the butterfly. That happens very quick. YOu can just go out of the room and come back in and there is a butterfly drying its wings.
@triciaodonnell@busylady@whitelily@tesssa@vernabeth Thanks for commenting. I've been very busy and hardly had time to even upload. As Tessa comments these are very interesting to keep in the classroom where the whole process can be observed. I chose this shot because you can see the stripped wings of the butterfly have formed and are shining through the skin. I saw two more under rails. I'm wondering if all the heavy rain we have had has driven them up to the protection of the rails to undertake the change process.
