The persimmon crop is rapidly coming to an end mainly because of the competition for this divine fruit. I have to be out in the early morning to pick my share - after the flying foxes leave and before the birds invade. Mopsy is lucky. She selects hers from the ones the cockatoos have dropped to the ground. (See my uploads for 2nd March and 22nd Feb.)
The windows this site opens up in the world! I can't tell you how fantasy-like it sounds to have flying foxes and cockatoos that raid the persimmon trees! And what a beautiful color they are too!
Never tasted a persimmon. In fact I sometimes think you live in a completely different world what with kangaroos & cockatoos & flying foxes. How big are your flying foxes? I think they are fascinating!
@judithg I have been trying to capture a shot of a flying fox for the f-word2 challenge. But to no avail. They are about the size of a seagull...maybe a little smaller. But when one drops out of the tree and goes whoomp, whoomp, whoomp over your head in the dark it sounds as if it's as big as an eagle.
