What we are seeing on the ground and from the weather bureau. The plough handle is pointing to the cyclone. On the map we are midway between Biloela and Miriam Vale. That outer rain band has just arrived now and it is teaming down with out a breath of wind. Hope it stays that way.
The area where the eye is travelling at the moment is a sparsely populated area but winds are gusting up to 285 km/h. We have family in Yeppoon and they should be receiving a fair buffeting as I type. Hope and pray all stay safe. We have been well warned, had plenty of time to prepare and Marcia has been well behaved and stayed right on her predicted course. Thanks to all showing concern for our welfare. All good up to now. We will see what the afternoon brings.
Thinking of you as this cyclone goes through bang in the middle of towns where I was born and lived until I was 8 years old. Still feel affectionate about that part of of Australia. Your posts are very helpful for us to understand the seriousness and impact of this cyclone.
@terryliv we are getting a real buffeting now but thank goodness it is now only a cat 2 but that is scary enough. It is moving down along the mountain range separating us from Biloela and is only about 30 km NW of us now
@ethelperry thanks Ethel. Yes it is heading straight down the valley following the Dawes range down to Monto. At the moment, nearly 8:00am, it is giving us a real buffeting. It won't be long now and the eye will pass over us. But all is well as it has lost a lot of its intensity.
I'm glad to see you stayed safe and sound through this storm. This type of weather truly scares me. There is no stopping it. I am always awestruck by the power and force. But I'm also thankful for the technology of early warning systems which actually save lives. Great diptych!
