"Here I am, Philip, am I indoors or am I out? Do I take my hat off or keep it on?"
Frank Lloyd Wright
I spent an enjoyable few hours with @taffy@pamknowler and @rosiekind today but my fav shot of the day was taken as I walked back to the train station and passed this gentleman's hat shop!
I did not realize until I got home that I had somehow nudged my settings from fine and raw to only fine, so I only had jpeg shots to work with, after initial concern I am not worried at all, love the jpegs I had! Even though I converted the jpegs to b&w in LR I don't think this came out to bad!
This is wonderful! So pleased you saw this after you left us! Lol! I have really enjoyed meeting up with you again and have to thank you for showing us round your fabulous city! Thanks especially for taking us out for light trails! Love this image! Fav!
SOOOO cool!!! I love the way this plays with my head/eyes! A wonderful in and out question of what we are seeing. It was fun! Let's check calendars for time between now and the following week, before the 10th. Will send some options on email.
@vignouse@yrhenwr Thank you very much and high praise from you both, especially as I count you as people who inspire me here on 365. But I pose this question to you, do you think you have the "eye", or do you think you are as good as you are because you are passionate about photography and constantly educate yourself in what ever way you can to become better? Is there such thing as an eye, or is it a desire to learn and push yourself to become a better photographer? I believe the latter!
@dbj_365 I find myself listening to photography podcasts more and more, and I keep hearing the same thing about people ditching RAW. this little oops by me has got me thinking! Time to start tweaking my settings in camera I think!
@ukandie1@yrhenwr Ah, what an interesting response.... let me see, hmmmm! Does the 'eye' exist? Yes, absolutely and you do have it, so does Northy... it's a rare gift though. Do I have it? No, I don't think so. I do have the ability to sometimes make a silk-purse out of a sow's ear; to cobble up a workmanlike image from unprepossessing raw material and I can visualise that final image before I press the shutter button. But you produce magic out of the everyday humdrum... it's a great gift.
@ukandie1 Yup!...give it some thought...you might like some of the same gains I have...much less time in post, less space and time copying/moving/importing/archiving the large RAWs, etc. Now I don't know if I'll ever shoot in B&W JPG in camera as not having the original color info does impact conversion options.
@ukandie1 Yes, a desire to learn, to experiment, to challenge yourself... in short a 'developmental attitude'.... absolutely vitaI. I am quick to see the potential for a shot and make quick technical decisions. If necessary I can quickly move into position and make a good composition... but that doesn't make me a good photographer. I am useless at assessing the light for example and I lack creativity, which so frustrates me... So, if I have the 'eye', there are other 'senses' missing. My current thinking is that I need to focus on the process and enjoy it in order to improve, which is one reason for doing a lot of film just now. I'm off digital because by it tends to hurry us to the end result. I think I am asking the most fundamental question about photography: what is it for?
