Make No Little Plans

Here on this little Island in Graceland Cemetery lies the final resting place of Daniel Burnham, the simple rock in the back of the shot is his headstone. Burnham's plans for Chicago are largely still observed, his proposal that the city's lakefront should be for the enjoyment and recreational use of its citizens is still in place today!

HDR is not normally my thing, but now Aurora is available for windows I thought I would give it a whirl for the fun of it!
@taffy another from our walk yesterday!

Perfect, perfect, perfect! I this Burnham deserves his private island, and find it interesting still that he chose such a modest headstone.

I've missed out on another @ukandie1 and @taffy Chicago photowalk! Can you believe I've never been to Graceland? Well, the cemetery, that is. (I once took my Japanese mother to Graceland -- the other one -- because it was her dream to see the house and pink car.) I know what you mean about HDR -- and although I find it sometimes a bit hyperrealistic, your capture/creation does a good job giving a higher texture and depth. Lovely.

Lovely pov, leading line

know what you mean about HDR, but works pretty well here - gives great clarity without being ott, methinks

Beautiful shot, looks like a lovely tranquil place

HDR is not really my thing either... but this has worked out really well!

Pretty scene. I like the lines of the bridge.

I think you've proved here that HDR can be used to good effect, it's a really attractive shot.

HDR is okay but in limited quantities. This is an excellent image. I'm glad that Mr. Burnham's philosophy is stilled in favor. Chicago's water front is a marvel.

So fun to see the creator's grave site and the leading lines of the bridge. Looks as though you both had a fun photowalk, too. Hope all is well with you and your family.

I think the HDR works well here to bring the detail out in the shadows. A lovely little bridge, and I like those trees.

I think you did a marvelously natural looking hdr and hooray for Burnham’s foresight

Great composition. So this is Aurora, eh? Hmm....I'm not much for HDR either, and all of the sample images I saw with the Aurora left me with the impression it would be difficult to rein it in...but this is great. I may have to take another look at it.

Looking at this scene directly and in the same conditions I don't think I would see it like this. HDR gives it an unreal feel which is fine if that's what you are after but not in keeping with your usual realism (of course it doesn't have to be) PS Glad to see you back again, Andie, if indeed you have come back.

@yrhenwr I seem to flit in and out of 365 these days, the social side of it seems to bog me down. I think I should just choose a few people who's work I like and comment on them and no one else, but the social side of me says I have to comment on everyone who comments on my shots. That said I have just posted a trio of shots that are similar in theme, but edited slightly differently. Would love your opinion on them. I like the comp on the first best, but prefer the edit on the second.

@dbj_365 Aurora is worth playing with if you think it might be something you could use. For sure you can do some over the top HDR (and there are some horrors out there), but it is easy to rein back and find a happy spot. I think they do a free trial.

@ukandie1 I'll take a look,thanks

The social side is the hardest thing for me too.. but if it can lead to conversations like this then I have to think carefully about curtailing it. My solution so far has been the one you're contemplating.. to aim for deeper two-way critiques. I simply can't do that and have the social chit chat. I prioritise those who seem to have a developmental attitude towards their photography. I've learned that I don't need to comment every day, they don't mind! I don't worry about chasing faves either.. a mugs game, the fav currency becomes completely devalued. A problem is that its a transient population... it takes work to make up for a loss. I take breaks (but not enough because I can't stop taking photos!) I often tell myself to give it it up and do less, but more serious, work. But 365 continues to help me to get ideas and to develop... like many others, I abandoned the fundamental premise of 365 (one a day, taken and uploaded that day) long ago.. a recipe for a 'this will have to do' attitude if you ask me! I hope you can find the right balance... I'll always be glad to see your work and how it is coming along. Good luck
