@koalagardens I can't seem to work out what the specific variety is there are so many different types... this is a common one and the female has just brown feathers no blue
I use a fb group called Australian Bird Identification. They id birds for me so fast I just upload then sit and watch the commenting start! If you are not a fb user, would you like me to submit it and find out which one it is?
@koalagardens haha... i am a very avid fb user and i think i should join this group you speak of ;) thanks for the advice I would like to start learning the actual specific name of the birds I take pictures of
@ulla great! I'm in a few different groups for identifying mammals, insects, birds etc It is nice when you can say that's an xxxxx I look forward to finding out which one this is!
sorry I had gone outside by the time you replied to say I could put your photo to the group. This is an immature male superb fairywren in winter plumage. I learned so much in the conversations this created as it is the same as the ones I have here, but I've never seen the young males with just the tail blue. Probably I've just not managed to see them at this time, rather than they never show this colouring!
@koalagardens oh wow so it's a young one... Is is super or superb? I see them with the female so assumed they were just different from the other darker blue wrens.. We get oodles of these near our place.. Thanks for getting back to me with the info.
@ulla ugh, superb! I edited now and fixed my response :)
apparently in the winter when it is not breeding season they lose their colours - mine haven't been told this apparently as my males are still in full glory!
I agree - nature is amazing! pity the admins stopped allowing more comments on the thread, I've not seen that happen before but you have had hundreds of likes on the image! The information and conversations were interesting I thought and I'm glad you are now in the group and can use it any time you need an id. It took less than one minute for the first person to answer me :)
