I was reluctant in accepting the first get pushed challenge from @peterdegraaff, which was "take some photos of a sunset or sunrise over Lake Michigan." I live a half-hour drive from the lake and though I work in a city bordering the lake, I was having a hard time figuring out the 5:45ish am or 7:45ish pm, plus the weather was rain, rain and rain. I asked Peter for a different challenge, just in case, and he graciously obliged, but not shirking from a challenge, I checked the morning forecast before going to bed last night and saw unabashed sun. I set my alarm for 5am, drove the half hour (without coffee - no time), and froze my fingers sitting for an hour in brisk below-freezing temps with the wind coming off the lake to take over 100 shots. My fingers, 8 hours later are still tingly, so forgive me for filling some empty spots in my album with today's labors. Thanks, Peter, for the push - it was worth the early rise and chilly temps!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! It was COLD this morning (walking the dog at 9:30 so I can't imagine 5:45). And like you, I have never, in all the years I've lived here, considered getting up that early to take a sunrise photo. This is just beautiful, too, with the surf on the rocks, the color layers, etc. I'm totally impressed. Fav for sure.
Fav. from me. Terrific colours from a cold morning. Must have been exhilarating. Particularly like the splash in the foreground. i would have been content with any sunrise shot but glad you accepted the challenge. My night shot was not anywhere near as good as yours, but I still have this evening.
@peterdegraaff You are certainly the sunrise/sunset master. So many absolutely stunning photos - I'm honored you think mine was nice enough to fav it. I'll continue to look your way for more inspiration!
@colie it was a special morning, especially now that the feeling is fully back in my fingers. I knew it was getting bad when I couldn't feel any part of the camera with my fingertips anymore - and then, of course, stayed another 15-20 minutes. I think I was out there for nearly an hour.
